Interdisciplinary Studies (Online)

The BA in Interdisciplinary Studies challenges students to define themselves, develop their potential and make important contributions to the world beyond academia. The degree is self-designed and brings together an array of courses into a focused curriculum. It offers the maximum flexibility, encompassing courses in our college as well as other FIU schools or colleges. Students will take a capstone course dedicated to aligning student interests and academic history, and to assist in developing clear career plans.

In today's business world, the globalization of markets and production is more evident than ever. Global trade is growing at unprecedented speed and is affecting all businesses, even those focused on the domestic market. To be successful, managers must be aware of the importance of regional trade agreements and supra-national organizations, and the effect of foreign exchange systems and the effect of fluctuations in foreign exchange. Students who major in international business develop an understanding of these important issues along with knowledge of the strategies used by multinational corporations and how to manage in a cross-cultural environment.

International Relations (Online)

The major in International Relations provides a broad, interdisciplinary education that will equip students for a wide variety of careers. Many of our students have gone on to excel in public service, including careers with local, state, and national governments, and with international and non-governmental organizations. Others have entered the private sector in fields as diverse as banking and finance, consulting, business, journalism, law, marketing, and higher education. The curriculum is designed to expose students to topics that cut across a range of disciplines while also allowing specialization in a student's area of interest.

Marketing

The marketing major provides a solid understanding of business activities under the marketing umbrella-from the identification and selection of target markets, to the development, pricing, placement and promotion of goods and services, and the management of relationships among business partners and their customers. Students receive a broad foundation in marketing concepts and practices and opportunities to pursue greater understanding and skills in selected areas of the discipline including sales, advertising, distribution and logistics, and international marketing. Graduates are able to understand consumer behavior, calculate retail pricing on both cost and profit based approaches, interpret the language of marketing research, and analyze a company's marketing strategy in order to recognize appropriate and inappropriate marketing alternatives.

Political Science (Online)

The major in Political Science provides the skills of political analysis and a disciplined education that equips students for a wide variety of careers. The program is designed to: (1) encourage analysis of political theories, institutions, and processes within the broader context of the social sciences; (2) develop a continuing and responsible interest in political participation and public affairs; (3) provide the opportunity to acquire a fundamental understanding of political science as a basis for citizenship, a career in government or the private sector, or graduate study in various fields. The curriculum exposes students to various topics within Political Science while also allowing reasonable specialization in a student's area of interest.

Psychology

The Bachelor of Arts in Psychology provides quality general education in the psychological sciences. The curriculum reflects current trends in the science, theory and practice of psychology. Undergraduates may pursue the B.A. in psychology as a liberal arts degree, in preparation for graduate or professional training in psychology, social work, education, law, medicine, business, and other disciplines and/or to work in para-professional jobs under the direction of licensed or certified professionals. The program consists of 120 credit hours, including completion of the university core curriculum, courses in five key sub-disciplines within psychology (experimental, social, applied, personality/abnormal, developmental), statistics, research methods/lab courses, and electives.
